New Super Mario Bros. 2, as expected, got some love during the Nintendo 3DS showcase and had some interesting gameplay footage for fans to mull over. The title will be more focused on collecting coins and will feature a new mode called Coin Rush wherein players, after beating levels, will be given a pack of levels in which they must collect as many coins as possible, with only one life granted. Players will be able to use StreetPass to compare coins collected with buds.
Also shown was the new multiplayer mode which can be done through local play. The camera will remain fixed on the player who is in front and if one gets left behind, that player will get stuck in a bubble and made to suffer the humiliation of watching his partner collect tons of coins (the jerk!).
