Get This – Super Mario Bros. 3 Was All a Lie (Sort Of)

What if I told you that Super Mario Bros. 3 was all an elaborate stage where nothing was real? Well, I won’t, but Shigeru Miyamto will.

As we approach the 30th anniversary of everyone’s favorite plumber this September 13th, Nintendo UK has posted a brief video with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto tells us the truth about the Mario universe and nothing but. Strap yourself in, Internet. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

In fact, Miyamoto claims that – as the Internet’s so popularly theorized for a number of years – the entire game was nothing more than an elaborate play held for players’ amusement as they watched Mario perform in what was simply a stage show with no real enemies.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the platforms are bolted into the backdrop as if suspended above a stage and the end of the stage is a simple black background – just like the stage exit to a play. Coincidence? With Miyamoto’s own confirmation, we dare think not.

If that didn’t blow your mind, then you can watch the entire video above and find out just who Bowser Jr.’s mother is.
