It’s Not Just Another Sports Game | Tennis in The Face Review

Tennis in the face

Tennis in The Face is an indie game from 10tons. Originally an iOS game ported to the PS4, the objective is you use your tennis balls to hit targets, and take down AN EVIL CORPORATION! So what is this corporation, and what’s it all about?

Tennis in the face is about a retired tennis pro, who had to leave the game because he became addicted to an energy drink, called “EXPLODS”. (I mean don’t we all EXPLOD when we have too much caffeine? No? Just me.. moving on..)  You use your tennis balls to take out anyone affiliated with the company or anyone who’s addicted to the drink. Which appears to be everyone. It’s a puzzle game, very similar in mechanics to Angry Birds, whereby you hit a tennis ball off of the surrounding area and try to hit your enemy or enemies, while battling various obstacles, such as glass panels, which will block the path to your enemy. But you will also have the advantage of environmental help, such as explosives, to help defeat your foes more easily.

The game itself is split in to levels, which you will unlock as you progress but it’s not uncommon to find yourself a little stuck on a level or two so you’ll definitely be battling trial and error while you progress. All in all, it’s a decent game that could provide a bit of entertainment but it’s definitely not something with huge replayabilty. You can repeat levels for higher scores or to try beat it with less tennis balls used, but it does leave you wanting a little more.

While it is a bit of fun, it’s not something I’d jump at, and there are definitely better indie games out there, but I’d probably pick it up if it went on sale or for free with PS+.
