Tetris Movie Coming Soon. Yes, This Is Real.

Of all the video game franchise to turn into a movie, this one baffles me. Tetris, the classic puzzle game staple of video games, is being adapted by Threshold Entertainment as a “big, epic sci-fi movie.”  Yes, Tetris. The 1984 video game by Alexey Pajitnov about stacking rows of blocks is being used as the basis for a film. So unless there was some Tetris RPG I missed, the screenplay writers are going to have a lot of room to roam. Though no cast or director or even a writer has been chosen for the film, Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff (producer of the Mortal Kombat movies) was pretty vocal about the project. He’s stated that the film will not just be blocks stacking or block characters running around. Kasanoff insists that he has some big plans for Tetris even though he hasn’t revealed much of anything besides the name. Personally, I’m intrigued given how 1995’s Mortal Kombat movie was just ridiculous enough to be an enjoyable piece of entertainment. And with such a simple source material, anything could happen with this film.

What do you think of a Tetris movie?
