TGS 2014: Ace Attorney Prequel Features Sherlock Holmes

Following the fantastic Dual Destinies, Capcom has decided to do something a little different with the next entry in the Phoenix Wright series. Called Dai Gyakuten Saiban, this spin off features an ancestor of the famous lawyer who lived in Japan’s Meiji era. The game’s TGS trailer reveals that the Ace Attorney prequel involves the main characters travelling the world and that at least part of the game will be set in the UK.

If that wasn’t weird enough, the game also features the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and his companion Watson. Unlike in the original stories, the Watson of the Phoenix Wright universe isn’t an army doctor but an 8 year old girl. This is all shown in the game’s first trailer which can be seen above. The video contains plenty of fan service including a character who looks suspiciously similar to Winston Payne from previous games.

The Ace Attorney prequel is a 3DS exclusive but so far no western release has been confirmed. Capcom will be holding a live showing of the game at 12:15 JST on Saturday so expect more details then. You’ll be able to watch the show live on Youtube.
