The TGS trailer for Final Fantasy: Explorers shows how players can transform into various different characters from past games in the series. Using a special trance ability, characters in the game can change their appearance to look like Final Fantasy VII protagonist Cloud Strife. Those who are not a fan of the Advent Children star can instead choose to play as Lightning, Terra Branford or Squall Leonhart. More characters are set to be announced in the future.

It won’t just be Final Fantasy heroes that return in this c0-operative action RPG. The latest video also contains familiar summons and monsters including Shiva, Malboros and Bahamut. You’ll will have to work together in teams of four to take down these foes.

Japanese players will be able to become Cloud Strife on December 18 when Final Fantasy: Explorers launches exclusively for Nintendo 3DS. Square Enix hasn’t officially announced a western localisation but they have trademarked the name in USA and Europe.
