TGS: Sony Announces Newer, Slimmer Slim PlayStation 3

Need proof that Sony is still committed to this console generation, at least for another year? During their press conference at the Tokyo Game Show, they unveiled a new look PlayStation 3. One that’s 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the Slim PS3, has a sliding disc door and comes in either Charcoal Black or Classic White.

Furthermore, the storage size is also improved, although not initially. On September 25th; the 250GB version will hit North American stores, retailing for $269.99, with a special bundle that includes a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception as well as a voucher worth $30 for use in the upcoming Dust 514. Then, on October 30th, retailing for $299.99, there’s a special 500GB version that will come with a copy of Assassin’s Creed 3.

For PAL users, though, things get more interesting. The 500GB version will be made available, but not the 250GB version. Instead, there will be a version that comes with a 12GB flash drive and no hard drive. Consumers who purchase this version are allowed to install a hard drive to boost space, but the 12GB of memory that came with it will not be accessible afterwards. In many ways, then, it’s like the Xbox 360 Arcade Edition.

So, what say you, readers?  Are these new consoles sounding like value for money to you?
