We’ve known for quite some time that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is coming straight for us this December, but what we haven’t known is just what its galaxy is looking like thirty years later. Thanks to Disney’s hype-train to the stars, we’ll know a ton more, beginning right after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Admit it: you were dying to know why Luke grew a Jedi Master bum-beard.

Marvel Comics will be bestowed the honor of debuting the very first Star Wars story set after the destruction of the second Death Star and we mean right after it. Emblazoned on the cover of the very first issue of the multi-issue comics event are the chipper cast of the Rebel Alliance we left behind so many years ago and whose new adventures going forward will now, like Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, be fully canon according to the powers that be at Disney and Lucasfilm.

;

We may not know just how long the comic series is or what it’s about, but its title, Shattered: Empire, will run under the not-so-subtle banner of “The Journey to The Force Awakens” right alongside Disney’s 20 novel promotional campaign for director J.J. Abram’s sci-fi epic this winter. The series is purportedly an easter-egg gallery of fan-service leading all the way up to the film and as of now, all of the novels are still being edited, but are planned to release within the year.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (we’re still waiting on that Episode VII part) is headed to a big-screen near you this December 18th. Get cracking, super-fans. You’ve got some reading to do.
