The PS4 Won’t Ever Play PS3 Games, Sony Speculates

<p>One of the biggest announcements this past week was that the Xbox One would finally be getting <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;bagogames&period;com&sol;xbox-ones-getting-full-360-back-compatibility-this-holiday&sol;">back-compatibility with Xbox 360 games<&sol;a>&period; Gamers have wondered whether the Playstation 4 could do the same in light of the news&period; According to Sony&comma; that&&num;8217&semi;s just not going to happen anytime soon&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<blockquote><p>&&num;8220&semi;PS3 is such a unique architecture&comma; and some games made use of SPUs very well&comma;&&num;8221&semi; Yoshida commented&period; &&num;8220&semi;It&&num;8217&semi;s going to be super challenging to do so&period; I never say never&comma; but we have no plans&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p><&sol;blockquote>&NewLine;<p>The PS3&&num;8217&semi;s SPUs&comma; the Cell processor&comma; is allegedly archaic to the PS4&&num;8217&semi;s more modern CPU processors&period; As a result&comma; it could prove difficult to move PS3 games to PS4 natively – or via your own PS3 game discs&comma; as it were&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Yoshida expressed his surprise at Microsoft&&num;8217&semi;s announcement of back-compatibility from one generation of Xbox to another&comma; meanwhile&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<blockquote><p>&&num;8220&semi;I didn&&num;8217&semi;t think it was possible&comma;&&num;8221&semi; Yoshida said&period; &&num;8216&semi;There must be lots of engineering effort&period; They talked about 100 games&comma; but what kind of games will be included&quest; Is it smaller games or big games&quest; We don&&num;8217&semi;t know&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p><&sol;blockquote>&NewLine;<p>From this E3&comma; we know for sure that your 360 copy of <em>Mass Effect<&sol;em> will <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;bagogames&period;com&sol;these-are-first-360-games-work-on-xbox-one&sol;">work on your Xbox One<&sol;a> and Microsoft will reportedly be porting at least &&num;8220&semi;a hundred&&num;8221&semi; 360 games to Xbox One by this holiday followed by at least a &&num;8220&semi;hundred more&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong>Via<&sol;strong> <a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;eurogamer&period;net&sol;articles&sol;2015-06-19-dont-hold-your-breath-for-ps4-backwards-compatibility">Eurogamer<&sol;a><&sol;p>&NewLine;
