The Ratchet & Clank Movie Has a Cast and a New Date

Update: The new movie poster has been added.

Original Story: It’s been over two years since a Ratchet & Clank movie was announced by Sony Pictures and it’s been just as long since we’ve wondered who was going to be starring in it. Now it’s finally been revealed that most, if not all the series’ core cast will be back along with some brand new additions.

You guessed it: James Arnold Taylor and David Kaye are both returning as the series’ eponymous duo.  Armin Shimerman will meanwhile be reprising his role as the evil Dr. Nefarious, with Jim Ward as the galaxy’s biggest washed-up superhero, Captain Quark. For those of you not in the know, the franchise originally followed the misadventures of Ratchet and his robotic companion saving the galaxy one gag and gun at a time fighting a variety of tongue-in-cheek villains, Dr. Nefarious included.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paul Giamatti (American Splendor, The Amazing Spider-man 2), Sylvester Stallone (The Expendables, Rambo), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), and Rosario Dawson (Daredevil, Sin City) are all hopping onboard. Originally slated for this year, the film’s now got a 2016 date attached to it.

The movie will now follow the studio’s remake of the original Playstation 2 version of Ratchet & Clank for Playstation 4, which recently received a last-generation rerelease for Playstation 3 along with its sequels, Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal. The remake is intended to be exactly that: a top-to-bottom remake from the ground-up with new graphics, new weapons, and a new story with the original cast.

Written by Insomniac alumnus TJ Fixman and directed by TMNT‘s Jericca Cleland and Kevin Munroe, the movie’s set to premiere at the Cannes film festival later this month on May 15th-16th.
