Them’s Fightin’ Herds To Begin Community Tournament Series

Pads and arcade sticks out, let's fight!

Them's Fightin' Herds

Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a fighting game currently in Steam Early Access, having been crowdfunded in the past. The full release of the game is scheduled for April 2nd, 2020, on Humble Bundle and Steam. The game’s playerbase, quickly approaching 3,000 concurrent members on Discord, is rapidly growing, has players coming together and discussing the game.

Now, the Steam Early Access title will be getting its own online community tournament series, with the second event taking place on March 28th.

Fightin’ Foenatics – Before The Magic Series

Originally started by FiveByFive and Rich Jammer, the duo began running the group with online training and events to prepare for the eventual release of TFH. In FiveByFive’s words, the Fightin’ Foenatics “…are a group of fans that have been in existence since just after the completion of the IndieGoGo crowdfund for TFH.”

The game had entered Steam Early Access in February 2018. The Magic Series ran throughout 2018, ending in a finale with a $300 prize pot in January 2019.

Previously, the player cap for 2018 was 32 players. Now, the circuit has increased the player cap to 48.

How The Magic Series Works

The tournament series -aptly dubbed The Magic Series- is a multi-stage tournament series where players compete in multiple double-elimination tournaments throughout the course of the year. Entry for The Magic Series is free to anyone interested to play. Special Events for The Magic Series, such as larger FGC events like EVO 2019, tend to have raffles or physical prizes available.

Every player that participates gets points based on their placements, with the winner getting the most from that event, obviously.

The participant cap is 48 players, and the final tournament in the Series will rank the top 16 players in a single, final bracket. To be considered for the top 16, a player must have entered and played in at least four of the eight tournaments.

Tournament Organizers and Streams

Tournaments in The Magic Series will be run by MPK, FiveByFive, Rich Jammer, Koi (aka Candel), ItsAK9, Amaron, Mostly Harmless, SouthernFoxy (aka Yeou-shi), and JunaE_CBS (an organizer in the past).

Streaming will be handled by up to four TOs, so almost everyone’s matches will be showcased live. You can enter the second event for The Magic Series here. Them’s Fightin’ Herds is currently available via Steam Early Access. You can purchase it here if you don’t own it already.
