Stabbing (virtual) people with your friends has been something Assassin’s Creed fans have been doing since 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. While Revelations through Black Flag gave us some enhanced version of it, Unity changed things up with a four-player co-op experience. With today’s reveal of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Ubisoft says it’s cutting back on multiplayer.

Talking with Game Informer, creative director Marc-Alexis Côté explained that the studio intends for Syndicate to be more of a throwback to the series’ roots, and that means making it more of a solo affair.

“Returning to what made this series such a success. For us, it’s truly the single-player experience, and investing in that that’s going to make Assassin’s Creed feel more modern and fresh for our players.”

Instead, Syndicate will see players switching between series protagonists Jacob and Evey Fry as well as commanding their own London street gangs. We’ll likely know more about what’s in store for both our heroes come E3 time.
