THQ Nordic has been quietly making waves in the video game industry lately. Now, it appears THQ Nordic has acquired Deep Silver’s parent company Koch Media. The deal was worth $121 million Euros or $149 million USD. With the acquisition, THQ Nordic now adds the Saint’s Row, Homefront, Dead Island, and Metro series. The acquisition also grows the company to about 1,600 employees across 36 studios through in-house and beyond.

When THQ filed for bankruptcy in 2012, they auctioned off all their major IPs. Since then, Koch Media acquired the Metro series as well as Saint’s Row and it’s developer Volition at the auction. Koch Media then bought the Homefront IP from Crytek.

Nordic Games were making moves of their own buying up some of THQ’s old IPs including the Darksiders series. They eventually obtain the “THQ” trademark and change their name from Nordic Games to THQ Nordic. Which leads us to today where we have a bit of a reunion with games like Saint’s Row and Metro returning to THQ in a way.

With the acquisition of Koch Media, THQ Nordic has a combined 50 game projects in development. Among them is a new Darksiders, as well as Fade To Silence, which was announced at the Game Awards in December. This might not impact the development of Metro Exodus, which was just announced at E3 last year. However, it is unknown how this will affect the development of Dead Island 2, which has been in development purgatory for the last three and a half years.

As for Saint’s Row… Well, we’re still going to have to wait on that one. Volition opted to start a new IP in Agents of Mayhem rather than making a fifth chapter in the Saint’s Row franchise. With THQ Nordic now owning the rights to Saint’s Row and the publisher Deep Silver, could we see a Saint’s Row V in the future? Only time can tell.
