In some unfortunate news, THQ has shut its San Diego studio and laid off its staff. Rumor has it that this move was timed to coincide with E3’s day 1 conferences to best deflect any attention from themselves.

The San Diego studio was purportedly developing a UFC game but the rights to it were transferred to the UFC and EA after an agreement was made between them and THQ.

“THQ confirms that today’s announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company’s San Diego studio,” they remarked. As for affected staff members, they went on to say “THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA.”
