Three Games That Need To Come To PS4

The PlayStation 4’s the fastest growing console ever, and yet, there are still games which have not come to the platform. Here are three games we want to see released on the console.

1) A Ratchet and Clank Reboot

Do you think Ratchet and Clank needs a reboot? (Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, Sony Computer Entertainment)

Ever since the release of Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, the series has been close to dead for me. The series took a completely new direction after the well received Crack In Time with a co-op focus. The bigger issue, however, is the sense of humor addressed in the games. Instead of having comedy with some explicit meaning behind it, the series went completely kid-friendly in its writing and character design, leaving its gritty, crude humor a thing of the past. In the meantime, Insomniac Games’s been content developing derivative Ratchet and Clank games like All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault. Their last release, Into The Nexus, felt like a shell of its former self with a shorter campaign and repetitive level design. Even Qwark’s jokes seem tedious.

Also, Ratchet and Clank‘s storyline has grown convoluted for those who want to try the series for the first time, with the introduction of Ratchet being the last of the lombaxes and Clank’s involvement with the Zoni.  As a fan of the series, I think a reboot for the PS4’s needed after the series halting All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault, and tired game design from the PS2 era. Ratchet and Clank used to be platforming champions, and now they’re relegated to budget title releases. It’s time to reimagine Ratchet and Clank in a new age of 3D platforming alongside Yooka Laylee and A Hat In Time.

2) A New Harry Potter Game

Would you like a new Harry Potter game? (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, EA)

I remember loving the Harry Potter games on the original PlayStation as well as The Prisoner of Azkaban on PS2 as a kid. All three allowed the player to explore Hogwarts, solve puzzles, and take on signature moments from all three of the movies. There was even a fun Quidditch World Cup game, which had high production values and a combo-like system similar to FIFA Street.  They were all excellent retellings of the movie for what the platform could offer. Fun fact: Jeremy Soule, the composer of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, wrote the music for both Harry Potter PlayStation 1 games.

Ever since the release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, EA have not been able to recapture the magic (pardon the pun) that the games once had. Goblet of Fire felt like a generic Diablo clone with little to it, Order of the Phoenix just had Harry collect all the members of Dumbledore’s Army with few references to the story of the film (the exploration of Hogwarts and the Wii Remote functionality was fantastic though), and the Deathly Hallows games were practically third person shooters. I haven’t played the Half Blood Prince, but after Goblet of Fire and Order of the Pheonix, I had little interest to get back to it.

A new Harry Potter game in the style of the old games for the PlayStation 4 would be a great tie-in to the upcoming spin off movie series, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. A complete reimagining of the Harry Potter stories on the PS4 with new mechanics and perhaps an action-RPG system would be great too. Perhaps BioWare could develop it, depending on who owns the rights now.

3) Uncharted Remastered

Playing Nathan Drake’s journey before Uncharted 4 comes out would be fantastic. (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Sony Computer Entertainment)

With Uncharted 4 recently being delayed to 2016, there’s an opportunity for fans to catch up. While fans would most likely have the games on the PlayStation 3 already, we’ve seen the dramatic difference for The Last of Us Remastered, and it’d be worth it for the series to be remastered in HD. Think about all the action from the Uncharted series so far in 1080p and 60 frames per second goodness!

Also with the multiplayer practically dead for every other mode that isn’t Team Deathmatch, it’d be great to see the Uncharted multiplayer community get refreshed by a new Playstation 4 version. Due to Naughty Dog previously showcasing Uncharted gameplay montages on Uncharted TV, Uncharted Remastered could have a pack on SHAREfactory for people to make montages out of their saved clips.

Plus, the YouTube functionality on Uncharted 3 has also been outdated, with it saying that we’re using an incompatible device. With Sony focusing more on free-to-play with upcoming releases such as Kill Strain and Drawn To Death, they could even release Uncharted 3‘s free-to-play version on the PS4 too.  I hope at we get to see at least one of the games ported for the PS4 while we wait for Uncharted 4 this E3.
