My Time At Portia Preview

My Time At Portia is a promise made to PC and Switch gamers that I can’t help but buy in to. Akin to Stardew Valley and other games of the ilk, the graphics lend a sense of childlike wonder that the retro-style graphics of its forebearers lacks. With that said, the game, so far, has captured my imagination. This is not because it is another farm, fight, repeat title, with a new skin. This is because the game embraces a near Pixar-like art style that makes time spent in the world that much more entertaining. Character customization is at the forefront of the game and the first thing you do. While all the characters look to be age-adverse, the magic in the creator is how simple it is while also offering something that allows you to create a child or an adult with the most minor of tweaks. Is the game going to take over the world? Probably not yet as it is still in early access on Steam. Is it going to be a “must have” on Switch? I think – if the direction of the game continues as it has so far – that will be an easy yes.

My Time in Portia, Team 17

While my time playing My Time At Portia has been very short so far, the game has me wanting to dig in deeper and spend more time. There are a slew of games on the docket right now and making time for each is a challenge, but something keeps calling me back to Portia. Maybe it is the art style that is instantly relaxing, or maybe it is the promise of a bigger world to explore. Whatever it is, though, there is a bit of magic in the beginnings of the game that grab you and make you want to stick around. We will keep you updated as the game progresses and we have more time in this mysterious land of Portia.
