DC Comics is exploding all over television with Arrow, The Flash, Constantine and Gotham. There is even early talk of a Supergirl series currently in development. The latest comic franchise DC is developing is a new Teen Titans which TNT is very close to ordering a pilot for. The script for said pilot is being developed by Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes which according to Deadline will…

…revolves around the eponymous group of young Super Heroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others.

The pilot seems like it will be more like the New Titans comics which were much more gritty and dark than the Teen Titans animated series those not as familiar with the comics will recognize. This raises questions, though, about how much overlap there will be will be between the pilot and the other DC Comics movies/TV series. Members of the Teen Titans have included Cyborg (appearing in Batman V Superman) and Kid Flash (possibly an appearance in The Flash). Their nemesis was also Deathstroke (Arrow). These characters could show up or make brief cameos. If approved, there may even be a possibility of this being DC’s Agents of SHIELD for having major crossover with the movies, but now I’m getting ahead of myself. The pilot isn’t even officially ordered yet and there is a chance it may never be expanded past that if approved. Still, it’s a tantalizing idea that would certainly stick out from the already crowded crop of superhero TV series.
