5 Top Retro Games we forgot about

Video games have been around for a long time. Over the years, consoles have evolved from clunky models to slimmer, compact, and portable devices. New games are constantly cropping up but truth be told there are so many retro games that are worth trying out or at least worth revisiting. Sure there are games these days with better graphics and more complex gameplay but for lots of old school gamers there is something satisfying about the simplicity of older games. For those whose interest has been piqued or just want to take a walk down memory lane, here is a rundown of the best retro games in the market.

Super Mario Brothers

There isn’t a person out there who hasn’t given Mario Brothers a shot. Launched in 1985 on the Nintendo platform this much loved game revolves around an Italian plumber’s quest to save the lovely Princess Peach from the clutches of King Koopa. Of course it is no easy feat even with the help of brother Luigi and a few pals, each level takes players through various worlds filled with countless obstacles. With every game level progression becoming more challenging than the previous one.

For its time, Super Mario became the first ever single screen movement game in the entire world. Players would run and squash enemies while collecting power ups and coins. Super Mario and its subsequent games have undoubtedly become the most purchased gaming franchise of all time.

Ms Pac Man

Initially introduced on the Atari, the Pac Man game was made popular by the Mr. It was much later on when MS Pac Man was introduced to the arcades. Game play is the same as the original, player’s control our heroine with the main goal of chomping up all the pellets while avoiding the ghosts whose main business is to track you down and eat you up. There’s nothing particularly spectacular about the graphics of the game, there’s no story-line but it is hands down one of the most addictive games that can be played when you download retro console games.

Space Invaders

Another cult classic, this first cover shooter game is as simple as it gets. Pilot an aircraft, your one and only goal is to fend off the extraterrestrial armada that’s coming at you. This game gets pulses rising with each level becoming faster and faster, the accompanying music doesn’t help build up the excitement as well. Blast each saucer out just like the head shot you would deliver in Call of Duty.

Donkey Kong

This video game series features the adventures of a lovable gorilla called Donkey Kong. The most popular of the series would be the single platform action and puzzle game. Set in an industrial backdrop, DK plays as the gamer’s opponent. Dodge barrels while making your way to the top.

Street Fighter II Turbo

For a lot of older gamers, the nostalgia surrounding retro games is reason enough to keep playing them. Many have after all have grown up surrounded by their friends cheering them on as they punch buttons in a dimly lit, smoky, sticky floored arcade. There is no greater satisfaction in beating an older kid with an electric attack delivered perfectly by Blanka or finally unlocking a character like Akuma after trying for the billionth time. Regardless of the version played, a game as simple as beating the crap out of your opponent will be an easy favorite among any age group.
