With the announcement that Xenoblade Chronicles will be making the jump to the Nintendo Switch, it makes one wonder what other games they may have in store for us in 2020. I was genuinely surprised that XenoBlade Chronicles would be gracing another Nintendo console, but I was also very happy.

My 3DS and Wii both have copies that I’ve played but not completed yet, and there are actually a large stack of games that I’m yet to beat because my Wii was broken for about six years. Porting some of these games over to the Switch with less waggling controls would be a great boon to me, and other gamers who missed these titles or just didn’t feel like getting carpel tunnel while playing them.

5. Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch

(Metroid Prime Trilogy – Nintendo)

Honorable Mention: The Conduit and The Conduit 2

Yes, I do realize that the first two Metroid Prime games were one the GameCube, however some Wii owners were privy to the steel book Trilogy collection that Nintendo released. I luckily got my hands on one when it was still cheap and love playing through Retro Studios’ take on Samus’ world. Researching what has transpired and scanning all the little important details really pulled me into the world.

The combat was spot on, and the overall atmosphere made me want to play over and over until I had gotten all the scanning done. I loved plaything this game on my GameCube and the Wii and I would not mind a portable version of Samus’ last great adventure before the dark times.

4. Arc Rise Fantasia

(Arc Rise Fantasia – XSEED Games)

Honorable Mention: The Last Story, Pandora’s Tower and Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

Seeing as my Switch Lite is quickly becoming my JRPG machine I wouldn’t mind another fantasy world to explore. Arc Rise Fantasia fits that bill to a tee. The world you get to explore is filled with political tensions and you must navigate these tensions as you fight to survive.

There are dragons in this world, that if killed can poison the land they die on, it just so happens a huge flock of dragons is set to fly over the capital. You are tasked with stopping these dragons or changing their flight path. As with all JRPG’s things don’t go according to plan and you must survive with your wits and party members.

This is a unique experience that I wouldn’t mind seeing to the end, I am guilty of always starting a great JRPG then never finishing it. All these JRPG’s on my Switch Lite is making me change my ways.

3. Donkey Kong Country Returns

(Donkey Kong Country Returns – Nintendo)

Honorable Mention: Kirby’s Epic Yarn, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wario Land: Shake It!

One of my friends told me that this “game is rape,” due to the fact that it is so difficult, and wow they were correct. I’ve never been one to excel at platformers, but I did dabble in the Super Nintendo versions of these games and enjoyed myself. This game is difficult and I think that newer gamers who really haven’t felt the crushing sensation of an insanely difficult platformer could enjoy it.

I don’t think that Tropical Freeze is as hard as the first DKC game since the Rare days. The music and visuals of this Wii title were one for the record books, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it brought up to HD standards. Playing on my Wii and 3DS just don’t do the game justice.

2. Super Mario Galaxy

(Super Mario Galaxy – Nintendo)

Honorable Mention: Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Paper Mario

This is by far one of the best Super Mario Bros game that was ever created. I remember playing it before my Wii broke and having put about 8 hours into it falling in love with it. The music alone is worth hunting down a copy, this was the first time a Mario score was orchestral and it is simply beautiful.

This was also the only game to ever get so 3D that I would get sea sick while playing it. Having Mario run around the planets would disorient me from time to time and I would have to pause the game to get my balance and bearings back. The only other game that ever gave me vertigo like that was Tomb Raider, you all remember when you have to climb that tower, I got major vertigo getting to the top.

I love this game, I love everything about this game and I really should put it back into my repaired Wii so I can finally finish it!

1. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

(The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – Nintendo)

I will be honest with everyone here, I maybe only put about 3 or 4 hours into this title when it first came out. Soon after I messed up my wrist and couldn’t fly the big red bird without feeling intense pain. Once my wrist had mended my Wii had broken, so I’m guess the Video Game Gods want me to play this game, just on a different system.

What I loved the most about this title was the art style, the pastel and painted look of the world really drew me in. I enjoyed running around as Link and waggling my controller to kill some enemies or to fly my bird oh so majestically. I need to get back to this title, even though I’ve already pleaded for an HD remake, chances are it won’t happen.

People are in love with Breath of the Wild and that version of Link and Zelda. Can’t say I blame them, BotW is one gorgeous game that really brought the unknown and challenge back to the series. I’ll keep crossing my fingers for this, but chances are I’ll get a wrist brace and fly through Skyloft on my Wii in the near future.

Are there any games that I may have missed? I know that the Wii had a huge library to comb through so I may have missed some gems that just weren’t played enough. Let me know in the comments!
