These Are Your Top-Selling Amiibos

Nintendo’s Amiibos are selling like hotcakes wherever you can find them, but some amiibos are certainly more equal than others.

As it was revealed at Nintendo’s recent shareholder’s meeting, the company revealed just which of its increasingly popular line of NFC (near-field-communication) figurines are beating out the rest.

Despite their near-extinction at local retailers, Marth, The Villager, the Wii Fit Trainer, Pit, and Captain Falcon are still holding strong in terms of sell-through rates, or the number that landed in consumers’ actual hands as opposed to store shelves. Link, Fox, Rosalina, Samus, and Yoshi meanwhile round out the top 10 Amiibos in the same category.

As of late, the top ten Amiibos in sell-throuh rates are:

1. Link
2. Mario
3. Pikachu
4. Kirby
5. Samus
6. Yoshi
7. Zelda
8. Donkey Kong
9. Peach
10. Luigi

While The Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Marth might very well have been the highest commodity advertised on social media these days, it was Link, Mario, and Pikachu who moved the most units in North America overall.

Link’s further topped the charts in Japan and Europe, while Mario remains king in Australia. According to Nintendo, the United States and Canada alone have made up 63 percent of all Amiibo sales.

Translated into English, Nintendo’s broken up sell-through and sell-in rankings. Here are the lists by region for retailer orders and consumer purchases:

                                         Shipments to retailers.

                                               Sales to consumers.

In its statements to investors, Nintendo didn’t offer much information in the way of rereleasing any rare Amiibos (i.e. Wii Fit Trainer or The Villager) unless they’re an in-game necessity.

“It is difficult for us to promise to continuously ship all of the amiibo figures,” Nintendo president Saturo Iwata said. “We will, however, consider additional production in cases such as when an amiibo figure sells out shortly after launch, an amiibo is indispensable to play a certain game, and when we receive a lot of requests for an amiibo figure from consumers and retailers.”

To date, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors have been among the most prominent to be compatible with Amiibos. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse along with Intelligent Systems’ upcoming Codename S.T.E.A.M. will also be supporting Amiibos – Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede in the former and Marth, Robin, and Ike in the latter.
