Torbjorn is the Next Overwatch Nerf Target

Overwatch, Blizzard

Torbjorn, defensive star of Overwatch, is getting a nerf on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which is coming sometime in mid to late July. Torbjorn’s turrets will be getting a 30% reduction to damage, which should help out players who find themselves dying quickly because of the perhaps too accurate turrets. This was confirmed by Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan on a reddit thread discussing how many feel the character is overpowered on console. Some theories on reddit as to why this is happening on console and not PC have to do with increased accuracy on PC due to keyboard and mouse. By reducing the damage output of the turrets it is allowing players more time to react to the turrets and respond in a more appropriate time.

Blizzard has been on the ball in regards to letting the community know what they are doing, and how they are balancing the game. Just last week the first patch hit PC, which nerfed McCree and WidowMaker, decreasing their damage outputs. The McCree nerf was to his secondary fire mode, his “fan the hammer”, where the damage was reduced by a fair amount. Blizzard found that he could easily melt characters with a large amount of health, the tanks of the game, but with the nerf he is closer to where they want him to be. WidowMaker’s nerf also had to do with her alternate fire mode, and a reduction in its damage, though a slight increase to headshot damage, amongst a few other tweaks.

On console, the patch for McCree and WidowMaker will be coming at a “later date”, potentially bundled in with the Torbjorn nerf. One other character that is being buffed is D. Va, though Blizzard hasn’t revealed entirely what they will be doing with the character. Overwatch has been an undeniable success for Blizzard, and it has been great to see how active they are with their community and with fine tuning the game. All of this is great news for players, as competitive play is about to launch for the team-based shooter, in mere weeks.
