Award winning side scrolling puzzle game Trine is getting a face-lift thanks to the kind folk at Frozenbyte. The game originally launched in 2009 and became a cult classic, large in part thanks to the spectacular visuals, subtle but well crafted comedy, and inspiring three player coop gameplay at the forefront of the game. Features that hadn’t made it into the original, such as online multiplayer, were included in the sequel Trine 2 and only helped to refine the series further. Now, as a labor of love to the game that began it all, Frozenbyte are releasing a free ‘Enchanted Edition’ upgrade to all owners of the original Trine.

The entire game has been ported into the visually stunning engine used for Trine 2, bringing along all the benefits with it: upgraded visuals game-wide, online multiplayer (a highly requested feature for the original), along with a host of gameplay improvements to make the experience even smoother. No details have been specifically released in regards to whether skill trees from Trine 2 will be brought to Trine, nor have any specific game alterations been mentioned. For those who’d rather play the very first version, a toggle has even been added in to switch at whim between Trine and Trine Enchanted Edition. Frozenbyte explain how to gain access to the beta in their announcement post on their blog.
