Two Devil May Cries Are Going Next-Gen Next Year

Ninja Theory is remaking its Devil May Cry game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – and it runs at 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. The studio’s revisited DmC to make it run at 1080p and 60 fps in light of the flak the UK developer received last year regarding its DMC’s original, 30 fps release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The Definitive Edition comes bundles with all the downloadable content (Vergil’s Downfall campaign, three Dante skins, three Dante weapon skins and the item finder), as well as two new skins: Devil May Cry 1 Dante and Classic Vergil.

New modes of note include a Turbo Mode, in which the game runs 20 percent faster, and Hardcore Mode. With the latter, the style system is rebalanced to make ranking up much harder and ranks deteriorate much quicker. In addition, Devil Trigger doesn’t launch enemies into the air, parrying takes more skill and all enemies hand out more damage.

Vergil’s Bloody Palace is a new Bloody Palace mode that includes 60 levels and Vergil as the playable character and there’s also new Must Style mode (players must be at an S rank or higher to deal any damage to enemies), and a Gods Must Die Difficulty Mode in which all enemies spawn with Devil Trigger active and no items or health drops can be used. Elsewhere, Ninja Theory has added a manual target lock (with configurable controls), which will surely make Devil May Cry purists blush.

There is rebalanced gameplay, exploits have been fixed and moves tweaked. For example, Dante’s Demon Evade has been rebalanced, frames have been removed from Kablooey shots, Parry/Evade windows have been adjusted and collectibles, keys and doors have been redistributed.

Community mods are also added, such as an optional timer disable for Bloody Palace Mode, a triple dash for Angel Evade and the ability to hit red and blue enemies with any weapon. And expect the addition of a new cutscene that never made it into the original game.

DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition hits PS4s and Xbox Ones Mar. 17th, 2015 for $29.99. Meanwhile, Capcom also announced Devil May Cry 4, the last Devil May Cry developed by Capcom, will have a Special Edition due out in 2015 and notably divided fans upon its release for starring Nero – not series star Dante. The game joins the Playstation 4 exclusive Street Fight V as Capcom’s latest edition to the new generation of consoles.
