Single-player fans rejoice, Ubisoft Montreal’s For Honor will include a single-player campaign.

In an interview between community developer Emile Gauthier and For Honor producer Stephane Cardin, the two discuss the development of the upcoming competitive third person fighting game and its showing during E3 2015. When asked what is to come in 2016, Cardin says that many fans have been inquiring about the possibility of a single-player mode, to which he responds: “We said that we will have a single campaign, and I can promise you that we will have a single campaign.”

“It’s one of the key subjects we are working on,” Cardin adds. More firm information regarding the campaign is likely on its way very soon, as the producer explains, “I can’t wait to show stuff to you guys, and we’ll do it as early as possible, like we did with the multiplayer.”

Many titles released during 2015 opted to do without dedicated single-player offerings, including the likes of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Star Wars Battlefront, and Evolve. News that For Honour will go against this trend is a pleasant way to begin 2016, and a wise decision from the developer, considering the negative feedback many multiplayer-only titles have received over the past year. It should be noted however that Cardin did not provide any specifics as to how much depth the single-player mode will have, but seeing as he spends some time explaining the decision, it is likely not an afterthought–though competitive multiplayer surely remains the main focus.

Ubisoft’s new IP is set to release in 2016, though no official release date has been given. In the meantime fans can look forward to more details on the single-player campaign.
