Today Epic Games has confirmed that their well loved Unreal Tournament franchise is coming back after a long hiatus. Vice President of Epic Games, Mark Rein said in a tweet ‘I love #UnrealTournament – So excited for the comeback!’ The post began a flood of questions over the nature of the game which so far Rein has not yet answered. However he did link to a tweet from Epic’s Paul Meegan which read:
UE4 Dev Community + Epic. The future of Unreal Tournament. Tune in to http://t.co/hPLc5jcZSv Thursday at 2pm ET. #unrealdev #FirstBlood

The last original game in the franchise was Unreal Tournament 3 which released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2007. Since then the studio has mainy been focused on the Unreal Engine and the Gears of War franchise. Having sold the rights to the Gears of War IP to Microsoft in January of this year, it seems that Epic is now returning to it’s roots with the next instalment in the Unreal Tournament franchise. We’ll bring you all the details after Epic makes the announcement via it’s Twitch Channel on May 8th.
