Update 2.50 releasing tomorrow for the PS4

With a slower update cycle compared to their counterparts at Microsoft, Sony will release long awaited update 2.50 to their community tomorrow. According to the PlayStation Blog, this update will feature a host of features which include long anticipated promises, popular requests, and a few surprises.

Internally at Sony, update 2.50 was code named “Yukimura” and its most prominent feature includes the suspend/resume function. Players will no longer have to quit their games and re-launch them. Starting tomorrow, when done with your gaming session, put your PS4 into Rest Mode. When it is time to start another session, simply power backup the PS4 and you’ll pick up right where you left off.  PS4 gamers can now finally experience the same feature which has been available to Xbox customers since launch.

Some more prominent features include the ability to promote a sub-account to a master account. If you’re 18 years or older, have a sub-account and now want to strike out on your own with a master account, tomorrow is your day of independence. The next big feature centers around accessibility and we’re happy to see Sony take the lead here as everyone should be able to game, regardless of their disability. These new functions include the ability to customize button assignments, zoom functionality, an inverted colors option, text-to-speech functionality, enlarged text option, and bolder fonts and higher contrast for the UI. Sony has worked closely with the great people at Able Gamers and it is so good to see these options come to fruition.

Other highlights include the ability to back-up and restore your HDD to a USB device, improvements to the party creation process, and more ways to find friends to game with on the PS4. As part of update 2.50, the PlayStation Vita will receive update 3.50, which enables support for streaming at 60FPS during Remote Play. Lastly, expect the PlayStation App to be updated to version 2.50 as it contains some accessibility options like larger text and increased contrast.
