When I first heard that The Walking Dead game would be downloadable and episodic in structure, I was turned off. Then I heard it was mostly a point and click type game and I was completely turned off. I eventually decided to download both episodes and I’m glad that I did. “Starved for Help” picks up after the events of “A New Day” as you once again take control of Lee and all the choices you made during episode 1. I can’t really talk about the story too much, since what you’ve done in “A New Day” shapes how this episode plays out, but I can say that the storytelling is on another level here.

There’s an interesting farm, some new characters you meet along the way, and even more challenging choices you have to make. We’re passed the intros and by now you’ve more than likely chosen which of the survivors you like and which you don’t—making “Starved for Help” and the subsequent episodes much more heart/gut wrenching. The choices you have to make are much more brutal this time around because of the bonds you’ve created.

Gameplay remains the same. Search the screen for objects and people to interact with and hit the corresponding button. Not much else to say. If you’re looking for a game that’s action packed, or if you’re not a fan of games that are mostly point and click adventures, you should probably skip this. The voiceovers are well done, despite a bit of melodrama near the end, and the art style is an interesting choice for a game so violent and brutal—but it works.

“Starved for Help” is an experience that I won’t soon forget. The choices are much harder and what’s at stake is much more important leading into the upcoming chapters. Even with the predictable twist that concludes the episode, “Starved” is a masterclass in storytelling with some truly sick and twisted moments that will keep you hooked from beginning to end.
