It’s a week of ports, LEGO, and one of the last big releases for the calendar year in This Week in Games. So get ready to re-solve some murders in Los Angeles, save some citizens with LEGO, and avenging the Emperor in a new Star Wars game.
First and foremost, Star Wars Battlefront II arrives on November 17th for PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’s already available for those with EA Access, as one might have guessed since there have been many complaints already about some of the game’s microtransactions. Regardless, fans of the Battlefront games will be excited to know that there is a story in this one as opposed to 2015’s release. On top of that, there have been tweaks to the multiplayer. So hopefully the early opinions of some of the more minor features in the multiplayer haven’t plagued the entirety of that component and that the story is a worthy addition to the Star Wars canon.
If comic books are more your thing though, there’s always Marvel to rely on. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is the newest LEGO game and will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 17th, as well. As always, this is a great option for if you want to play with multiple people in the same house. I also find these games to take stories and characters from the Marvel universe and weave them together in an interesting way. You’re probably mostly interested in this for the characters you can play as, and as with any LEGO game, there will be plenty of Marvel fanfare to go around.
But now we’re onto the ports. Remember L.A Noire? I have very fond memories of the game when it came out on PS3 and Xbox 360. It had some technical problems, but Rockstar’s detective game also had compelling characters and interesting stories for players to accuse their way through. Well, Nintendo Switch owners will now get the opportunity to play through Rockstar’s love letter to the Hollywood detective film. PS4 and Xbox One versions will also be released on November 14th, when Switch owners will also get it. I’m more curious how the game’s motion capture holds up after being absolutely breathtaking when it was first revealed.
How about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim? You must remember that since it’s been re-released on pretty much everything at this point. This week we’re getting two versions of Bethesda’s popular RPG. First is for Nintendo Switch owners who will get The Elder Scrolls series on a Nintendo platform for the first time ever with Skyrim on November 17th. Utilizing the Joy-con controllers, this might be one of the cooler ways to play the game. But Bethesda couldn’t just release one cool way to play the 2011 game. PlayStation VR owners will get their hands on Skyrim on November 17th as well, offering a completely new and immersive way to experience the game. This is the version I have my eyes on as possibly being enough justification to play through the world one more time.
For those who are more about speaking Simlish than any other language, The Sims 4 is finally making its way to consoles. The popular PC game will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on November 17th. The game will feature many of the additional content packs that were released for the PC version after its launch. There will also be post-launch content released after the console versions are put out in the world.
And then there’s de Blob, which THQ Nordic will be bringing to PS4 and Xbox One on November 14th. The Wii classic makes its way to current gen consoles with better graphics and adds to THQ Nordic’s arsenal of older games being updated for the current generation.
