Weekly Wrap-Up #12 – Rod Fergusson Leaves Epic, Next Xbox Within 18 Months

Well, somebody must still be playing Metal Gear Solid 4, because Sony has posthumously released a patch that will add trophies to the 2008 stealth/action game by Hideo Kojima and Konami. There are some interesting trophies in there, such as being kissed by Ocelot during the final battle, and killing many enemies in one area and then vomiting.

Ubisoft released an image on their forum of what could possibly originate from the next Prince of Persia. Granted, it’s not explicitly stated, but there happens to be POP_ZERO_2 written at the bottom of the image and it does seem to fit the nature of the Prince of Persia games.

A couple of great games from the original Xbox era, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD will be ported over to the PS Vita, in the near future, according to its developer. Both are receiving a bit of a face lift as they are both games of an earlier generation of consoles, an action platformer and FPS respectively.

According to a recent job advertisement at Microsoft, there is a new version of the Xbox slated to be released within the next 18 months. Part of the job request reads, “Over the next eighteen months, Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office, and Xbox, along with completely new offerings like Microsoft Surface,”

After the recent departure of former director of product development Tim Gerritsen, Irrational Games have brought on a new face from another acclaimed franchise to finish work on Bioshock: Infinate. According to Kotaku, Irrational Games has brought on Rod Fergusson, producer of the Gears of War series. The website reports that Fergusson is now taking the role of making sure Bioshock: Infinate is ready for it’s February, 2013 launch date. Fergusson has had instrumental roles in the production of the Gears of War series, as well as other Epic titles.

This week had a lot of big news and the news staff and I found it hard to narrow it down to the usual five stories. Here are some of the articles for the honorable mention section. The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation and the Bank of New York Mellon Trust Company have secured the rights to the game, as well as 38 Studios’ other assets. Yesterday, a couple avatar items on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace were shown as being purchasable via real currency instead of Microsoft Points.
