Wii U eShop takes cues from iTunes & Steam

We all understand and (arguably) accept that Nintendo isn’t the company driving online interaction forward. Companies such as Microsoft and Sony have always been known to triumph over Nintendo’s previous attempts of online interaction which was simply known as “Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection”. With the Wii U however, it may seem that Nintendo is taking note of what makes a successful online environment, at least with its eShop.

The news that Nintendo has finally allowed developers to have more control over their titles when published to the Nintendo eShop is exciting. Mikael Haveri (Marketing manager from Frozenbyte) revealed to IGN that developers can set their own pricing and have their own sales whenever they want.

What does this mean for you guys? Well it means that if the eShop is really this “indie friendly” then more developers could be tempted to publish on Wii U. Not only does this mean that more, hopefully, exclusive content will be sent our way it also means that you should get more “bang for your buck” as developers try different pricing strategies to tempt you into purchasing titles.

Will we start seeing the rise of $0.99 titles? Unlikely, but it will be nice to enjoy sales which already grace Xbox 360 and PS3 fans. Well done Nintendo!
