Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, has stated that the company would not charge gamers a subscription fee to use the Wii U’s online services.

During a shareholders meeting, Iwata said he has no qualms with subscription-based online services, Nintendo feels it isn’t the best course of action to take for the Wii U.

He claims that a free online service will encourage the Miiverse users to evangelise it, leading to better hardware and software sales in the long run.

Nintendo also plans to police interactions with users by delaying messages for up to 30 minutes.
