The U in Wii U stands for you… 400,000 of you to be precise

Last week, Nintendo released its newest console marking the next console generation, the Wii U.

Since then there have been a mixture of good and bad reports on the console with some news outlets claiming that Nintendo has taken a step back and that the Wii U is destined to failure.

Figures usually speak louder than words however and Nintendo have revealed that the Wii U has sold 400,000 units in its first week on sale. In comparison to this figure, the original Wii (2006) sold 600,000 units in its first eight days on sale. So whilst Nintendo may be happy with the initial performance, it still isn’t as successful as the Wii… unless it has sold another 200,001 units in the space of 24 hours anyway.

Other figures from Nintendo reveal that the Wii sold 300,000 units, the 3DS sold 250,000 units and the DS family-tree (Lite, DSi and DSiXL we assume) sold 275,000. Yes. The original DS is still outselling the new 3DS.
