When you think of the problems Nintendo and the Wii U have to face, what comes to mind? The lack of games? The Wii U name itself? Well, if those were the only two things you thought of, you’d be half in-sync with Nintendo, because they don’t think the name is a problem at all.
Speaking to Kotaku, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime stated that the Wii U’s problems are not “issues of the name. The issue is the lack of a steady rate of software launches to motivate the consumer to drive buzz and engagement and to highlight the wide variety of uses of the GamePad. That’s the issue.”
Fils-Aime also acknowledged the fact that Wii U sales are only at 1.5 million, which is almost half of what its predecessor did in the same amount of time.
“It’s critical that the consumer see for themselves the range and breadth of compelling software for the system,” he later added.
The Wii U will see a price drop in September that brings it down to $299, as well as a Wii U/ Zelda Wind Waker HD bundle. Other titles like The Wonderful 101 (Sept 15th) and Super Mario 3D World (November 22nd) are also scheduled to release throughout the year, so maybe, just maybe, the Wii U will see a nice turn around and get the consumer buzz it needs.
