CD Projekt RED have announced… wait for it… a “modkit” on the official Witcher website as well as on their own forums. Disappointingly, it isn’t the official announcement of REDkit, official mod tools for The Witcher 2, support but at least it is a start. The modkit can be downloaded from a few locations such as Nexus and on The Witcher forum both of which are the official downloads.

The article on The Witcher website states, “the Modkit enables Witcher community to modify several aspects of the game to their own liking”. They also indicate that the tools will “allow the player to work with importing and exporting textures”, “modify the look and feel of an in-game object” or even “insert new models” and finally these tools will allow you “access to script files” or insert new scripts into the game.

So far this sounds perfect for people that wanted to mod the game files themselves without having to use a 3rd party alternative program and these tools will quite possibly decline the amount of clutter which can be added to your game folders.

Not only are there mod tools but there is also two lengthy pieces of documentation, the first of which is the “ModKit Quick Guide” which outlines the options and code for things like uncooking the game (basically unpacking the game files), exporting assets and so on. If you wish to read the Guide you can do so here.

The second document is the “Sample Mod Creation Walkthrough” illustrates how to get started with modding The Witcher 3 and basically goes through every step. You can read the walkthrough here.

Are you as excited for the official mod tools as I am, let us know in the comments!
