Witchfire Announced from Developers of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Perhaps the best way to sell me on a game is to include the phrase “From the creators of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter…but also Painkiller and Bulletstorm.” Announced at The Game Awards last night, Witchfire already has me sold with its teaser trailer that you can watch below.

At first, the trailer feels reminiscent of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter as you explore a desolate, run-down area. There’s a moment in between the reveals of who is working on the game where the main character pulls out a shotgun, the music changes, and you realize this will not just be a game focused on exploration. The only description for the game right now is that it will be a “dark fantasy first person shooter“.

The Astronauts’ three co-owners were also co-owners of People Can Fly and creative leads on Painkiller and Bulletstorm. So there’s really no surprise that The Astronauts were bound to make a shooter. However, the game does have a very gothic-vibe that feels really cool and I love the character designs, as well.

There isn’t much more news about the game because it isn’t close to release at all. The only confirmed platforms is PC and Steam, and the game is running on Unreal Engine 4. Witchfire uses the same photogrammetry tech that the team used for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter which allows for realistic visuals as they scan in real-life objects. Hence why the game looks great.

Needless to say, I’m excited for Witchfire, but let us know in the comments below what you thought of the reveal.
