World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Beta Announced Yesterday, Live Today

World of Warcraft

Beta Testing for the World of Warcraft expansion Mists of Pandaria will soon be available, according to an announcement on the official World of Warcraft blog. The blog states “Annual Pass holders, press, fan sites, friends and family” will be invited, along with other opt-in beta testers.

Blizzard explains how to opt-in to the beta:

“Once you’ve set up a Battle.net account and have attached at least one Blizzard game, you can choose to opt in to our beta tests from the Beta Profile page. You’ll need to select which franchises you’d be interested in helping test, as well as download and run the System Check tool to attach your computer’s specifications to your beta profile. Once that’s complete it’s simply a matter of waiting for an invite.”

Invites for the beta will be sent via email. Blizzard offers some precautions about avoiding the potential (probably even likely) email phishing scam that will that may be launched by individuals trying to steal login credentials. Battle.net security site has some tips for identifying such scams; the best way to determine if an email is genuine is to check your Battle.net account and check to see if there is a Mist of Pandaria beta license attached. This will confirm the legitimacy of the invite.

Blizzard promised that all Annual Pass holders will be invited to participate in the beta at some point; more individuals may be invited based on testing needs. Blizzard has not released a specific start date or how long the beta will last. Apparently some WoW gamers have already received an invite to participate in the beta.

Stay tuned right here for more information as it is revealed.
