Xbox Cloud Gaming To Arrive on Consoles Later This Year

Beta testing begins this fall

Xbox Cloud Gaming

Xbox Cloud Gaming is a project meant to bring the console scene to PCs, mobile phones, and tablets when official hardware is not exactly available. It’s purpose is definitely in the right place, and all it takes is the app, an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription, a signed-in Xbox account, a controller, and you’re all set. Sounds relatively simple, right? Well, it gets even better.

Earlier today, the team at Microsoft announced that the Xbox Cloud Gaming service will be making a jump to their home consoles, being the Xbox Series X and Xbox One. A new trailer detailing some of this information was also shown, and you can watch that below.

Xbox Cloud Gaming’s Console Release and Beta

Microsoft originally unveiled the release window for cloud gaming on consoles at the Gamescom video game trade fair. The event normally takes place in Cologne, Germany but has gone online-only this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. That’s not all, actually. Open beta testing for the program is set to begin in Q3 2021 for consoles. Currently, it’s available in beta to Xbox Insiders, and might be made widely available later.

Microsoft plans to begin testing cloud gaming on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles as part of this program this fall. Console cloud gaming will support up to 1080p visuals at 60fps, just like on PCs, phones, and tablets. It’s worth noting that cloud gaming is still in beta on those platforms as well. Microsoft will share more details about the rollout and release timing in the future.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is available now via the Google Play Store, iOS devices, and PCs. You can learn more about the service here.
