It would seem that Microsoft is changing its plan with the Xbox One, as a recent update on the system, given by Don Mattrick, confirms that the Xbox One will not require an Internet connection and disc based games are subject to lending, renting and trading in.
“Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One,” reads the post.
“You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.”
The Xbox One will only require an internet connection for the initial setup of the system. The 24 hour check-in is now a thing of the past and there are no limits on what you do with your physical games. So go nuts (but not too nuts).
This official announcement comes not too long after Giant Bomb reported that multiple, trusted sources, stated that Microsoft would be making huge changes to the Xbox One’s DRM policies. As of right now, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 seem to be closer in features than they ever were last week.
