Your Cold Hard Cash Can Now Buy Gold in World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

Your wallets have been forewarned, World of Warcraft players. Today, Blizzard’s announced their intent to let players exchange real money for in-game gold and more game time.

Thanks to the MMORPG’s “WoW Token” system, World of Warcraft gamers will soon be able to buy up tokens with real money which are then sold at the auction house where they can spend gold on them. When redeemed, these tokens will be worth a month of in-game time.

Via a two-step process, players will receive in-game gold with a real money purchase. The amount of gold will be set by the WoW economy, varying by your time and online server. Players will receive the amount quoted at the time – and only that time – of listing regardless of sale price.

While pricing details haven’t been announced, the token system is incoming with the next patch.

Meanwhile, Blizzard’s said that it’s implementing the system to provide a more secure means for players to buy gold – something that was previously banned until now. Tthird-party gold purchases, Blizzard claims, are a leading cause of compromised accounts and a risk they’re taking further measures to avoid.
