Abyss Crew is a Co-op “Bridge Simulator”

Abyss Crew is a one to four player co-op game in which each player either assumes the role of Pilot, Sonar Operator, Gunner, or Engineer. Crewman-ship is integral to exploration as each situation needs to be communicated and assessed tactically with your fellow mates. Abyss Crew‘s Kickstarter campaign runs from February 23rd to March 18th with an initial funding goal of $4,000 CAD. Backers get the game at $15 CAD / $12 US / 10 EUR, though the retail price remains undisclosed. Aquarealm Studios currently projects a March 2019 release. They make no promises, but Abyss Crew‘s Kickstarter page promises that they will “do everything” in their “power to deliver the game on time”.

The Pilot is responsible for operating multiple engines, navigating hazards, and taking evasive maneuvers. He/she also aids the gunner in lining up torpedo firing vectors. With limited visibility, the Pilot relies on the Sonar Operator.

The Sonar Operator acts as the submarine’s ears and eyes when treading the dark waters of the abyss. This crew member monitors the immediate environment for threats and can mark points of interest and waypoints for the Pilot. In battle, the Sonar Operator tracks movements and reveals enemy weaknesses that can prove useful for the Gunner.

The Gunner can use torpedoes, mines, and flechettes. The Gunner is the submarine’s primary defense from underwater threats like sea creatures and pirate vessels. He/she can also use a flare for illumination, operate a drill and orichalcum extractor, and clear debris. The submarine is also equipped with harpoons.

The Engineer processes the Gunner’s extracted orichalcum crystals for harvesting. This material is used to repair submarine damage, install upgrades, and craft more powerful torpedoes.
