If you’re a fan of System Shock or Deus Ex, “Core Decay” by developer Ivar Hill is definitely a title to keep a lookout for. The game was announced today at Realms Deep 2020 for PC, and will be published by 3D Realms. Together with their upcoming title Ghostrunner, Core Decay seems a fine addition to their cyberpunk line of games.
Incidentally, they also announced another immersive sim today, which is GRAVEN. GRAVEN has more of a dark fantasy setting, however, so Core Decay still seems radically different in tone.
Combat Isn’t The Only Option
In a bit of a refreshing change, Core Decay will offer some more options beyond just shooting. 3D Realms have so far been more known for retro shooters than anything. And while non-stop shooting has its place, Core Decay will add more of a Deus Ex style to the lineup.
Core Decay, in true immersive sim style, allows the player to decide for themselves what their course of action will be. You can use stealth to avoid combat altogether, hack systems, discover lost logs, and use several tools to complete your objectives.
You can also upgrade yourself with over 100 different implants during the game, that all change up the gameplay in some way. It seems they will be obtainable by exploring the levels, though we’re not sure yet on how these are distributed.
A Cyberpunk Single-Player Adventure
The game puts you in a dystopian 2089, where Earth is on the brink of an ecological collapse that will leave nothing alive. You follow the trails of a mysterious organization as you seek to save the human race by any means necessary. Even if it means sacrificing what it means to be human.
During your adventure, you will travel across 11 locations to explore. Each location will have unique weapons to find, as well as combat equipment to enhance your abilities.
No release date has been announced yet, but you can follow the game on Steam to stay updated on any releases.
