Final Fantasy XI is 18 years old at this point. But that hasn’t stopped Square Enix from keeping the MMO regularly updated with small patches. Though the upcoming storyline will be the first new story content since the “Rhapsodies Of Vana’diel” update in 2015. Details of the upcoming update were shared in a recent forum post by producer Akihiko Matsui.
According to Matsui, the new FFXI story will play out over numerous updates, rather than a single one. And it explores a previously unseen side of Vana’diel. Though in order to experience this new content, you will have to have completed “Rhapsodies Of Vana’die”l beforehand.
The new storyline also brings some changes to the Beastmaster job. The new changes include adjustments to accuracy and magic accuracy. As well as a subtle blow that take effect when the Beastmaster and their pet are attacking the same target. A lot of new pets will also be added, with very specific strengths and weaknesses. These changes were made to make the Beastmaster synergize more with their pets.
Other Updates
New Intense Ambuscades will also be added. The next month will feature a battle against magic-wielding Mamool Ja. This battle is designed for veteran players who are familiar with their jobs. Since the Intense Ambuscades have recently been revivals of older ones, it might be refreshing to have an all-new battle added.
The Normal Ambuscade will feature a Rafflesia. Its combat prowess is tied to its mandragora allies. During this battle, you have to be careful with defeating too many mandragora, so it is important to only defeat as many as you need.
So August might be a good month to return to Vana’diel if you haven’t already! You can still grab the game on Steam if you wish to begin your Final Fantasy XI journey today.
