Genshin Impact Update; A Huge Success

miHoYo's newest title is quite the successful one

Genshin Impact

Last week, Genshin Impact released on PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile phones worldwide, to a generally favorable reception. The game’s basis is based upon the player taking control of various characters exploring a post-apocalyptic world. On launch day this past Monday, the title had garnered more concurrent viewers on Twitch at any given time than Fortnite, which is no easy feat.

Previously, we’ve covered a closed beta, new characters releasing, and other information about the game at BagoGames. Let’s hear about what staff members at miHoYo and other development studios had to say about the game’s successful launch week.

You can watch the PlayStation 4 gameplay trailer below.

An Impressive First Week

App tracking firm Qimai Data has stated that Genshin Impact is already the second top-grossing app on Apple’s App Store in China, ahead of ByteDance’s Chinese short-video hit Douyin. As of the time of publishing, the game has grossed over $1.85 million in US dollars. That’s pretty impressive in its own right.

Serkan Toto, chief executive of game industry consultancy Kantan Games Inc., said, “I don’t think any Chinese-made game has ever had that many pre-registrations outside its home market. So just by the scale of people interested early on, Genshin Impact is a big title already.”

Pre-registration numbers were absolutely huge as well, garnering nearly 16 million pre-registrations in China alone. Internationally, another 5.3 million people had pre-registered before release, In total, this makes possible initial player count sit around 21.3 million players. Genshin Impact’s success is quite a sight to behold.

Reception for the game has been generally universally positive, though, the game has been compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the past. However, the game’s been endorsed by former SIE Worldwide president Shuhei Yoshida, which resulted in its PlayStation 4 release. On the side, deals have been made with Nintendo to make the game available on Nintendo Switch as well.

Genshin Impact is available now on PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile phones, with the Nintendo Switch version to be released in the future. The PC version can be downloaded from their website here.
