IndieCade, the International Festival of Independent Games, will be making its first appearance on the east coast this weekend; specifically in New York City at the Museum of the Moving Image.
The event, which starts this Friday (the 15th) and continues until Sunday (the 17th) is set to bring 27 indie titles for players of all ages to experience, including Gorogoa, Spaceteam and Thirty Flights of Loving; even the Oculus Rift will be at the event.
Other activities include:
- Night Games – Takes place on Saturday evening and consists of game play on two floors of the Museum
- A New York game design challenge; in which students and faulty from NYU Game Center and Parsons The New School for Design compete to design a game in one hour’s time.
- Game Slam – game creators present their works in an ongoing Show & Tell
- A ten game arcade tournament
- A game jam that continues throughout the entirety of the event, with participants giving it their all to create a game that is to be shown at a later presentation.
- The Game-Making Game – A workshop for those ages 8 and up that will show what it’s like to make a game
- Spacewar! Video Games Blast Off – an exhibition that commemorates the 50th anniversary of video games
Kris Piotrowski and Doug Wilson, creators of Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP and Johann Sebastian Joust, respectively, will also be in attendance as special guests.
“Since its inception 25 years ago, the Museum has embraced video games as part of our mission,” explained Carl Goodman, Executive Director of the Museum. “Hosting the nation’s most significant independent game festival is a natural next step.”
