Loved Banjo Kazooie? Meet Playtonic’s ‘Yooka-Laylee’

Miss Banjo Kazooie? Didn’t like Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts? Fear not, gamers – the folks at Playtonic feel your pain. Better yet, they’re here to give you the cutest placebo you could ask for and it’s name’s Yooka-Laylee.

If the name seems all too familiar to you (musical reference, adorable duo), then you’re absolutely right. As it so happens, the game’s being headed by Steve Mayles, the character artist behind the Nintendo 64’s Banjo Kazooie series and the Donkey Kong Country series as a former Rare team member. His studio, Playtonic Games, is made up of likeminded former Rare designers and Yooka-Laylee’s their very first game.

Like their beloved precursors, Yooka, the scaly one of the two, can use his tongue like a grappling hook. Laylee, the winged one of the two, can carry Yooka and fly for a wee bit or unleash a sonic blast among other moves.

Known as Project Ukulele until now, Yooka-Laylee will be part of another Kickstarter on May 1st, with all backers able to pick up the finished copy for $15/£10. Soundtracks, art books, and a special ’64-bit’ special edition are all planned as special bonuses should it reach its stretch goals.

If funded, Yooka-Laylee‘s due for release on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Mac, Windows for PC, and most appropriately, Wii U. Each version’s release date will be dependent on just when and how much money its stretch goals amass.

The studio’s teased further details this Friday, so stay tuned for more on Yooka-Laylee and all things gaming here at BagoGames.
