I got pretty excited about Maize when it was first announced back in May. From Finish Line Games, it features sentient corn that are born from misreading a memo. The game looks gorgeous and seems to have some humor to go alongside it. Plus, now it has a release date. Maize will arrive on Steam on December 1st of this year. You can check out the release date announcement trailer below.

<amp-youtube layout="responsive" width="500" height="281" data-videoid="0zqCLQSRZuU" title="Maize Release Date Announced - Also, Meet Vladdy"></amp-youtube>

What the trailer introduces is your sidekick in the game: Vladdy. He is a talking Russian robot bear that will be along for the ride with you as you venture through the mysterious cornfield. Vladdy is apparently not a very happy robot bear, so I guess prepare for some cynicism and hatefulness from him. We still know very little about the game, but it’s coming soon so we can expect to find out more when it releases in less than a month.

Maize will be making an appearance at iam8bit and Double Fine’s Day of the Devs on November 5th, so if you’re in the San Francisco area you can go check it out. Finish Line Games are a Toronto-based studio who previously released Cel Damage HD.
