A Nindies Nintendo Direct came out this morning and Nintendo revealed a number of exclusives coming to the Nintendo Switch, as well as some titles making the jump to the system. The Direct runs for just under 20 minutes, but shows a great deal of promise for fans of indie titles. From retro inspired platformers and shooters to endless runners and full on 3d adventure games, there is a little something for everyone.

One of the biggest announcements to come out of the Direct was that Yooka-Laylee would indeed be coming to the Switch. While it was previously coming to the Wii U, the move to the Switch has been shrouded in a bit of mystery. Now, Playtonic confirmed with Nintendo that the game would be coming to the Switch, meaning the Rare-inspired platformer would be playable anywhere, and with multiplayer intact. Easily one of the most talked about indie games coming out this year, having Yooka-Laylee on the Switch should help occupy players until Mario Odyssey comes out. The game releases for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 11, but no word on when it releases on the Switch other than this year.

Some other standout titles that were included were Steamworld Dig 2, the sequel to the great side-scrolling adventure, mining game, and Flipping Death, the new game from the team behind Stick it to the Man. One of the bigger indies to support Nintendo is Chucklefish, with a handful of titles. Pocket Rumble, which will be console exclusive to the Switch, is a 2d fighter, with what seems to be a fairly robust but simple combat system as well as online ranked matches. Wargroove really stands out, as basically an Advance Wars game that isn’t made by Intelligent Systems. While Intelligent Systems continues to be busy with Fire Emblem, sadly they haven’t released an Advance Wars game in some time. This looks very similar, with a wide range of unit types, massive maps, and even customizable maps. Lastly, Stardew Valley was announced to be coming to the Switch, and will include multiplayer for the first time.

The Nindies Direct has plenty to sink your teeth into, this was just a number of the standouts. Feel free to watch and comment on what titles pop out to you, and what you’re excited to play. Only a few more days until the Switch is in our hands, and it looks like a large micro SD card may already be necessary for all of these indie titles on the way.
