Prepare to Duel Again in Nidhogg 2

This is really exciting news for multiplayer fans. One of my favourite local multiplayer experiences was with Nidhogg, which had simplicity in both its aesthetics and gameplay, but was pure addiction when playing it. I’m excited to say that Nidhogg 2 looks to be the same kind of carnage but with even more of a push into the zaniness that was present in the original. Above is the announcement trailer which is just a very quick teaser, but very fitting to what I’d expect from a Nidhogg sequel.

Currently only announced for PC “…and maybe some other platforms” for 2017, Nidhogg 2 looks insane. The visuals are a vast improvement over the first game, but still wield an absurdity that may actually make it more enjoyable to watch. As a spectator, Nidhogg‘s visual simplicity but wacky animations made it a lot of fun just to sit and watch. This looks like it’ll be fun for a whole other reason. Check out some screenshots below if you’re not into the whole “motion video” thing:

Another notable new addition is the bow and arrow. I’m curious how much versatility it will have beyond shooting straight. It would be interesting if you could arc the shot to get a kill, which would just add so much salt to any wound. Regardless, Nidhogg 2 looks to be an exciting sequel for fans of the first, and I can’t wait to see if it lives up to the hype in 2017.
