The Outsiders is a development studio co-founded by former DICE employees, and they’ve unveiled their newest game, which is currently code-named Project Wight. The studio is led by David Goldfarb who was lead designer on Battlefield 3 and game director for Payday 2. He narrates the above trailer which gives a good look at what Project Wight is trying to do with its unique premise.
Instead of playing as a viking in the fictionalized version of the early dark age, players will see the world through the eyes of the “last remnants of a forgotten species”. Invoking horror and violence, the game will have players experiencing everything from the perspective of this species. In the video above, you get a look at how both a young and adolescent creature behaves and what kind of skill set will be at your disposal. There isn’t much in terms of plot, but there’s plenty of atmosphere and tone present.
I find that the mechanics that seem to be in place could be very interesting, as players can eventually glide from higher elevations to the ground. The video shows one creature landing in a viking camp and terrorizing them and eventually killing one viking. It’ll also be interesting to see how the game deals with playing a virtually extinct race that is fighting for survival against giant behemoths of men.
Project Wight is still lacking a release date and an official title, and the team seems adamant on taking their time to make sure the game is what they want it to be. So don’t expect much anytime soon, I suppose. But if any other news comes up, I’ll let you know right away.
Let us know in the comments below if you’re excited for Project Wight, or what you think of the game’s premise.
