PlayStation 5 news has been rather light, given the situation about Sony’s lack of transparency. This goes hand in hand with the idea that they seem to be doing things at their own pace. To make matters worse with the quiet with the PS5, a number of games have been delayed, like The Last of Us Part 2.

Then, almost out of the blue, the PS5 gets a controller reveal for its new console. It takes details of the PS4’s controller, such as the touchpad. You can see the brand-new design below.

The PS5 Controller’s Features

The PlayStation 5 controller, known as DualSense, builds on concepts initially done with the DualShock 4 controllers of the last era. New features of the controller include haptic feedback, which adds adaptive rumble to the controller. Adaptive triggers were added to the L2 and R2 buttons, giving a new feeling of immersion with added tension to some actions.

The PS5 controller reveal also guts the Share Button, and builds on what it originally did. It’s now known as “Create”, and to what degree it improves on things is currently unknown. Sony also has said that more info will be available later on this topic.

Another key feature that was added to the controller is its chat system. DualSense adds a built-in microphone array, allowing players to chat with friends without the need for a headset. However, Sony has gone on record here and said that “it’s good to have the headset handy” for longer chat periods.

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan also had a collective statement about the DualSense project. Read the statement below:

“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”
